11-Day Tanzania's Greatest Hits
Prepare for the thrill of wilderness, starting with a walking safari through the baobab-spotted landscapes of Tarangire, with herds of elephant and buffalo abound. Head to the heart of the Serengeti, where big cats lie atop vast granite kopjes, rhino lurk on the fringes of the forest and antelope graze in the long grass plains. Continue your exploration of the Serengeti on foot or by vehicle on the remote Northern plains where the landscape is breath-taking and the wildlife, even better.

Day 1 A night in Arusha
You'll be transferred from the airport to Arusha Coffee Lodge. As the name suggests, coffee is a running theme and the lodge is nestled into the lush emerald bushes of Tanzania’s largest plantation in the foothills of Mt Meru and well-located for flight connections. Radiating warmth and charm, this is an elegant and relaxing stopover choice with a number of activities to keep you busy… and possibly the freshest cup of coffee you will ever taste.
When you’ve sampled enough coffee, wander into Arusha town and visit the Maasai market on Faya Road or the Tanzanite museum for some souvenirs of the glittering kind. There’s also a wonderful organisation at the lodge, Shanga Shangaa, which employs local people with disabilities to create beautiful pieces of jewellery, glassware and artwork and is a fun way to spend the morning. Otherwise, soak up the tranquillity of the gardens, tour the plantation and get ready for your safari adventure!

Day 2-4 Explore Tarangire National Park
You'll be transferred by air to Oliver’s tented camp. Established by the pioneer Paul Oliver in 1992, the camp is perfect for those with an appetite for adventure. Set a little off the beaten track, beside marshland in the secluded Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s offers basic luxury and a great escape from the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater crowds. Oliver’s is renowned for great guiding, walking safaris and fly camping inside the national park. Well go on then - dust off those hiking boots.
Tarangire is best known for its walking safaris - a chance to get up close and personal with larger than life mammals. There’s also the adventurous fly camp option (no wings or plane required), a smaller lightweight tent in the heart of the wilderness, accessible by foot. The park also offers game drives twice daily as well as nocturnal excursions that reveal all the secrets of the dark. If you really do want to take to the skies, a hot air balloon safari can be prearranged.

Day 5-7 Style and comfort in the heart of the Serengeti
Catching a charter, you will be transferred on to Dunia Camp. This private tented camp is ensconced in a quiet acacia thicket away from the seasonal crowds of the Serengeti. Comfortably laid out, the high specification tents offer elegant relaxation without losing the desired thrill of a wilderness adventure. From the moment you touch down at the Seronera airstrip, incredible game viewing from land and air balloon await, making your Great Migration experience truly unforgettable.
Dunia Camp offers twice-daily game drives into the central Serengeti. Knowledgable guides are on hand to share their local knowledge, years of experience and wisdom. For the twitchers, there is plenty to see both at the camp and on game drives. Fancy something a little more adventurous? Why not take to the skies in a hot air balloon and admire the game from an entirely different perspective? If you’re traveling as a family, there are limited child-friendly activities to keep young minds enthralled.

Day 8-10 Witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti
You will be transferred by road to Sayari Camp. Set close to the mighty Mara River in the northern Serengeti, it is in a prime location for access to the exclusive Lamai wedge and front row position to the migration. Built on raised wooden platforms on top of a hill with with rolling panoramic views, you’d be hard pressed to picture a more idyllic place from which to enjoy Africa or the Great Migration. Plus, peak migration season aside, it’s still a winner for year round wildlife.
Sayari Camp offers the opportunity to experience the wilderness in a number of ways. Game drives lead by friendly, experienced guides will fill you in on the little secrets of the bush, while guided walking safaris (a rare occurrence in the Serengeti) allow you to see the subtleties often missed from a vehicle. Dining out in the bush is an experience unbeaten by any restaurant in the world, while cultural visits to the local community will leave you feeling warm and welcomed by Africa’s smiling people.
