Day 1-3 Enjoy a romantic retreat at Elsa's Kopje Lodge

Meru National Park is recognised as having a greater diversity of animal species than any other park in East Africa, so prepare yourself and your camera for large elephant herds, hippo, lion, caracal, reptiles, a rhino sanctuary and more than 400 species of birdlife. Elsa’s Kopje, named after the lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson, is an unashamedly romantic and beautifully styled retreat set into a rocky hill above the site of George’s famous orphaned lion camp. Take game drives and walking safaris with professional guides whose knowledge of the park is unrivalled. Pick up a rod and refreshments and settle on the palm-lined banks of one of Meru’s many rivers, then share your catfish, tilapia or barbel catch with the herons, monitor lizards and spectacular kingfishers. Enjoy an al fresco breakfast on the plains, surrounded by wildlife; or soak up the sunset with traditional safari sundowners. Visit the local Tharaka community, dip in the pool or relax at the spa.

Day 4-7 Face to face with elephants at Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp

This secluded lodge is located in its own private conservancy just one kilometre from Kenya's famous Masai Mara Reserve. You're in the hands of experts – the owners are the fifth generation of a family recognised as the oldest established and continuing safari family in Africa. So you'll experience the perfect combination of adventure, adrenalin and comfort. The plains are alive with animals, the Masai guides are gold-star professionals, the tented rooms offer relaxation in luxurious colonial style and the food is fresh and fabulous. The Masai Mara has the largest concentration of terrestrial wildlife on the planet, so there's plenty to see. Take guided day and night game drives, see the smaller species and birds on a walking safari, or rest with a gin and tonic on the veranda and take in the view that stretches to the distant horizons of the Mara and Serengeti plains. Visit a Masai community – these interactions are welcomed and are conducted respectfully, in case you're hesitant.
