Day 1 Unforgettable Stay at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi

On arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you’ll be met and assisted through immigration, then driven to Giraffe Manor. Surrounded by trees and warthog-cropped lawns, this 10-bedroom manor house is famous for its herd of Rothschild giraffe. In the afternoon visit the nearby David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (home to around 30 orphaned baby elephant), as well as the Giraffe Centre located on the manor house grounds. This centre is doing great work in conserving the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. You’ll be given the chance to hand feed these gentle creatures which wander freely about the estate, often popping their head through the dining room windows at breakfast!

Day 2-3 Award-Winning Finch Hattons in Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast you’re driven to Wilson Airport for your flight to Tsavo West National Park. Here you’ll be staying at Finch Hattons, an elegant tented camp overlooking a spring-fed waterhole. Look forward to excellent game viewing, luxurious accommodation, and 6-course dinners served under sparkling chandeliers or the star-filled night sky. Tsavo is famous for its red-hued elephants, coloured by a fine coating of the park’s red dust. Guided game drives give you the chance to see these elephant herds along with lion, leopard, buffalo and other big game. Over 500 species of bird have been recorded, and between drives it’s wonderfully relaxing sitting on your private deck watching birds flit through the trees, and hippo and crocodile down at the camp waterhole. Another Hattons highlight is sunset drinks out in the bush, looking across towards Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 4-6 Richard Branson's Tented Camp in the Masai Mara

Fly via Nairobi to Kenya’s Masai Mara, arriving at Mahali Mzuri in time for lunch on the main deck with its magnificent Mara views. At Sir Richard Branson’s Kenyan Safari Camp every detail has been taken care of in true Virgin style from the Champagne welcome to the gorgeous modern tents, 12-metre infinity pool, super-speedy WiFi, and tasty snacks and drinks served on the game drives. Mahali Mzuri is in a vast private conservancy, which means low vehicle numbers along with the superb game viewing that the Masai Mara is famous for. Morning and afternoon game drives are rich with predator sightings (lion, leopard and cheetah) along with plenty of plains game too. Travel during the dry season, and you could even find yourself amongst the thousands-strong wildebeest and zebra herds of the annual Great Migration - a truly unforgettable sight! We’d also recommend a dawn hot air balloon safari; gliding over the Mara River, the plains spread out below you (additional cost).

Day 7-9 Exclusive Singita Safari on the Serengeti Plains

After breakfast, collect a picnic box for your drive into Tanzania, followed by a flight to the exclusive Singita Grumeti Reserve which borders the Serengeti. For the next three nights you’ll be staying at Singita Faru Faru in one of eight elegant suites with floor-to-ceiling windows – there’s even a Swarovski spotting scope for leisurely game viewing without leaving your room. The Grumeti is known for excellent year-round game viewing: its grassy plains are dotted with herds of buffalo, zebra and antelope. Elephant gather down at the river and all the big cats are frequently seen. Along with twice-daily game drives go on guided walks along the Grumeti River, catch the huge wildebeest herds of the great migration (June to late July) or experience the thrill of a horse riding safari (experienced riders only). Between all these activities relax back at Faru Faru Lodge with its elevated decks, two rim-flow swimming pools and small beach overlooking a busy waterhole.

Day 10-11 An Opulent Lodge Perched on the Rim of Ngorongoro Crater

There’s time for a final game drive on the Serengeti Plains, before breakfast and your morning flight to the Manyara Airstrip. You’ll be met on arrival by your guide, and transferred by road (about 1.5 hours) to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge in its spectacular rim-side setting. Your accommodation is an opulent suite with eclectic antique furniture, hand-beaded chandeliers, and a personal butler on hand to draw a petal-strewn bath in readiness for your return from safari. The next day your guide drives you down to the crater floor for a full day of game viewing, including a picnic lunch alongside a lake dotted pink with flamingos. Ngorongoro Crater is a phenomenal wildlife destination and one of the best places in Africa to see the Big 5 – even the endangered black rhino is regularly sighted. Your camera memory card filled with wildlife, it’s back up to the lodge to toast the sunset with the crater laid out at your feet.
