11-Day Samburu, Mara and the Sea
Rumble into the rugged landscape of Kenya's Samburuland, where rare and endemic animals such as the gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich are waiting to be spotted. Then head to the Masai Mara, where unique and diverse wildlife thrives on the acacia-studded plains, and the great migration makes it way over the land following the rains. Soak up the equatorial sunshine and relax, rejuvenate and unwind on Saruni Ocean beachfront on Kenya’s stunning South Coast.

Day 1-3 Enjoy the safari lifestyle perched on the roof of Africa
Be as chilled or as active as you like at this super-chic, eco-friendly lodge in the private Kalama Conservancy in Kenya's Samburu Nature Reserve. The villas are open and spacious, with views that really do deserve being described as panoramic. See the "Samburu Five", a handful of rare animals endemic to this ecosystem – gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Grevy's zebra and Beisa oryx, and a host of other species your Masai warrior guide will identify. Day-time game drives are offered to explore the sights at Kalama Conservancy, Buffalo Springs National Park and Samburu National Park, and you can see Kalama's nocturnal species on a night drive. Take guided walks to investigate the bush and find the birds you've been wanting to check on your tick list. Feeling fit? Trek up Mount Ololokwe, Samburu's sacred mountain, or improve your family's bush skills at the Warrior Academy. Have breakfast beside the Ewas Ng'iro River or dine beneath the stars.

Day 4-6 Game drives and bush walks in the Masai Mara
Saruni Mara Camp and its sister tented camp, Saruni Wild, lie in the Mara North Conservancy, a private wilderness covering more than 30,000 hectares outside the Masai Mara Reserve. The sanctuary is a partnership between conservationists, investors and 800-plus Masai landowners, for whom this is the first time they have received income from wildlife. The camps lie in the path of the Great Migration (July to November) and the less well-known Loita Hills migration (December to May), which sees thousands of wildebeest arriving at the conservancy. Take night drives through the Mara Conservancy, investigate the surrounding forest and valleys on foot, with a guide, to see the smaller creatures and some of the Masai Mara's bird species. If you're travelling with your children, the Masai-run Warriors Academy offers special courses in bush skills and animal tracking. Hike up Kilelioni, the highest peak in the Mara–Serengeti ecosystem and visit the local Masai market, held every Thursday.

Day 7-10 Peaceful beach side retreat with ocean views at Msambweni
Finishing off a Mara safari? The Ocean Spa Lodge is a great place to wind down and feast your eyes on the Indian Ocean before heading to the airport. Its 14 thatched suites are strung along quiet, white-sand Msambweni beach on Kenya's secluded south coast, just 40 minutes south of populous Diani. It's a great honeymoon destination and a safe place to holiday with your children. Expect crisp accommodation, really good food and watersports for everyone. When you've had your fill of chilling by the pool, hop onto a boat to any of the local marine reserve islands to snorkel and explore the underwater life or, on Funzi Island, to see some of Kenya's best nesting sites for sea turtles; or go deep-sea fishing to find marlin and sailfish. If you're wanting to swim from the lodge, remember that there's quite a walk to deeper water at low tide (although the rock pools are interesting), and waves at high tide can be rough.
